The West Australian Wrestling Team competed in the Australian National Wrestling Championships.

To say I was proud of their efforts, heart, determination and fighting spirit is a vast understatement.

The results speak for themselves and are below in alphabetical order;

 Marcus Carney – Gold 130kg Senior Greco-Roman

 Marcus Carney – Bronze 125kg Senior Freestyle

 Stephen Erceg – Gold 65kg Senior Freestyle

 Carl Jankowitz – Gold 65kg Junior Freestyle

Ando Lehtmets – Gold 72kg Senior Greco-Roman

Taylor Pickering – Gold 74kg Senior Freestyle

 Taaniel Piiskoppel – Bronze Senior Freestyle

Taaniel Piiskoppel – Gold Senior Greco-Roman

 Amy Teo – Bronze Senior Women Freestyle.

 

Of the 8 competitors that I was honoured to be the state coach for at the Nationals event, the State won 8 gold medals and 3 Bronze medals….a total of 11 with only 8 competitors.

 

A special mention to our fabulous medical support staff of Sam Abbas (Physio) and Stephen Zucal (podiatrist) and Lisa Dane (videographer analyst) for the hours of match videoing over the entire day.

 

Finally, a huge thank you to all the referees, support staff and organisers from NSW Wrestling who hosted the event.

I hope nothing I said while coaching in the corner in the heat of the moment offended anyone lol.

To all who competed, today was a celebration of the sport we love so much so thank you all.

Wrestling was the winner today!
